‘Making a Murderer’ gives Netflix its own ‘Serial’

A new true crime documentary series is set to premiere on Netflix next month, the channel (I guess it's a channel? In the press release, it describes itself as an “Internet TV network”) announced today.

“Making a Murderer,” which will be released on December 18 (just in time for the people who couldn't get “Star Wars” tickets to watch instead!), looks at Steven Avery, who in 1985 was convicted of the rape and attempted murder of Penny Beerntsen. In 2003, Avery was exonerated based on DNA evidence that wasn't available at the time of his conviction. Four years later, he was convicted of the 2005 rape and murder of Teresa Halbach.

The series was directed by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, who spent the last decade following the case.
