Watch: Vera Farmiga calls her Emmy nomination ‘the best form of encouragement’

SAN DIEGO – It’s probably fair to say Vera Farmiga arrived at Comic-Con 2013 with a little extra pep in her step.

Stopping by for a quick chat about “Bates Motel” over the weekend, the actress told me she was in bed when she found out about her Best Actress – Drama nomination on Thursday morning – and described her husband’s enthusiasm as he tuned in to watch the announcement live.

“I was in bed, and my husband watched it real-time on Emmy.com,” said a smiling Farmiga. “He was really rooting for me, and I woke up to a hot cup of coffee. And literally the covers thrown over me right as they were about to announce the category. So it could’ve gone one of two horribly different ways!”

The more favorable outcome having coming to pass, Farmiga now finds herself grateful to have been nominated in such a tough category.

“It’s…so stiff, that competition,” she said. “There’s many deserving women and just to be one of…it’s amazing, it’s amazing. It’s like the best form of encouragement, isn’t it?”
