‘Veronica Mars’ Kickstarter campaign made Kristen Bell feel the love

“Veronica Mars” aired for a mere three seasons on television before being cancelled in 2007.  A movie spin-off was rumored/fantasized about from roughly that point forward. In March though, as Alan Sepinwall wrote at the time, all of that changed, because in March, Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell launched a Kickstarter campaign (blessed by Warner Bros.) to get a “Veronica Mars” movie made.
The Kickstarter campaign was massively successful, with 5.7 million dollars being pledged when the original request was only two million dollars. In fact, they hit the magic two million dollar mark a mere 11 hours after opening the campaign, and, all told, more than 91,000 people contributed a dollar or more to help get the movie made.
The “Veronica Mars” movie filmed over the summer and now all we have to do is wait and wonder about what has happened to Veronica since she last appeared on our screens, and what will happen to her on the big screen.
When we sat down with Kristen Bell to discuss her work in the upcoming film, “Frozen,” we also asked about that Kickstarter campaign and what it felt like. You can watch her answer in the video above, read it below, or both.
Said Bell, “It was one of… the craziest things I’ve ever been a part of, ’cause we wanted to make the movie, we took a chance that maybe everybody else wanted to make the movie, and seeing that Kickstarter number rise higher and higher, we felt so loved by the fans and we are so desperate to make a movie that they’re satisfied with because they’re essentially our producers. They’re our boss.”
No release date has yet been announced for “Veronica Mars.” “Frozen” opens in Los Angeles this Friday and nationwide on November 27th.
