“The Walking Dead” creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman and producer David Alpert discussed the hit zombie show at this year’s PaleyFest in Los Angeles.
In the video above, Kirkman reveals that “Dead” will maintain its connection to the original comic book series, while continuing to add new narrative and character elements. “There are huge elements from the comic book in season 3, moving into season 4 it’s going to be pretty much the same,” he says. “There’s gonna be a lot of things that fans recognize from the comics and there are gonna be a lot of new elements pushed in and it’s gonna make for a really good show like it always has been.”
“The pressure is always there to top [previous seasons],” Kirkman adds. “We always try to do something different, something unexpected.”
Producer David Alpert offers that the new season of the AMC show will wrap up some story lines and bring some sense of closure to the its multiple story strands.
He also teases the tone of the upcoming episodes.
“We’re going to visit some dark places,” he says,” but there’s always a ray of hope and optimism going forward.”
Season three wraps up at the end of the month, while season four is set to premiere in October.
