Why the ‘Gotham’ recast of Poison Ivy is the creepiest thing ever – She Said/She Said

She Said/She Said is a (sporadically) daily video featuring HitFix Harpy Donna Dickens and HitFix Weekend Editor Jill Pantozzi discussing current events in geek news.

This past Monday, Gotham premiered its third season on Fox. “Better To Reign In Hell” set up the this year”s premise which seems to be “Why can”t we hold all these villains?” as the Indian Hill escapees are still on the loose.

It was also the last time (probably) that will see Clare Foley”s version of Ivy Pepper, as her character took an unexpected dip. Based on the behind-the-scenes featurette put out by Fox, we won”t have to wonder about Ivy”s fate for long. But in case you haven”t been keeping up with the intricacies of Gotham casting, Foley has been outed as Ivy in favor of actress Maggie Geha. The idea was Poison Ivy is supposed to be a sex symbol so the show needed a way to make the character legally sexy. Instead, they just made it creepy.

In the video above, HitFix Harpy's Donna Dickens and Jill Pantozzi unpack exactly why you shouldn't cast someone as a '15-year-old in a 25-year-old's body”. Because apparently that”s something we need to explain to people.
