‘X-Men’ producers say another film with the original cast is ‘possible’

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is hitting theaters later this month, and “X-Men: Apocalypse” is already slated for 2016. But producers Lauren Shuler-Donner and Hutch Parker think there's room for even more mutant movies.

HitFix's Josh Lasser sat down with the duo to discuss the origins of the newest film, where the series might be going, potential solo films, and how to avoid franchise fatigue.

With a time-shifting narrative, “Days of Future Past” allows the stars of the first three “X-Men” films — including Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, etc. — to interact with “X-Men: First Class” cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult.

Although rumors indicate that “Apocalypse” won't feature the cast from the first three films, Shuler Donner and Parker say that “it's always possible” that the original cast will return for another film.

Shuler-Donner also notes that their plans include “definitely some solo efforts. I hope to see us do Gambit. Deadpool will eventually punch his way to the screen, I think.”

“Days of Future Past” also stars Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Daniel Cudmore, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Evan Peters, Omar Sy and Fan Bingbing.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens May 23.
