Benicio del Toro may be joining the dark side. The Oscar-winning actor has already cemented himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy. According to Entertainment Tonight, the 48-year-old actor has confirmed he is in talks to possibly join the cast of Star Wars: Episode VIII in a villain role.

Disney and Lucasfilm are still very much in the early casting stages for the project which has also brought in Joaquin Phoenix to test for the role in question. Rian Johnson is directing the next installment of the new Star Wars franchise and the project is scheduled to start shooting early next year.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for a theatrical release date of May 26, 2017. Given its close proximity to the scheduled release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it’s quite possible del Toro may not return to the MCU. The actor has already expressed his hesitance in revisiting the role of The Collector and if this deal with LucasFilm goes through, he’ll have a very good reason.
