To the surprise of no one, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won pretty much every rap category they were nominated in during last night’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards. Thus begins another round of Macklemore: Real Rap or Fake Crap? (Take a look at Twitter right now — dude’s receiving more hate than Daft Punk at a Luddite convention.) But even the biggest Macklemore fan (Mackmellows?) would have to admit that The Heist shouldn’t have won Best Rap Album over good kid, m.A.A.d city, Kendrick Lamar’s major label debut that still sounds fresh, even after play #32,011. Macklemore sure thinks so, which is why he texted Kendrick after the Gramys.

My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys (Via)
