Taylor Swift is having a great week. Not only has her latest album, 1989, become the fastest seller in a decade after reaching 5 million copies sold on July 5, but she was also able to help a young fan in need.
On June 25, 11-year-old Naomi Oakes’ family posted a video documenting the young girl’s battle with aggressive leukemia. Naomi, a Taylor Swift superfan, picked “Bad Blood” as her fight song to stay positive during her treatment, and was crushed because her extensive hospital stay of six to nine months would prohibit her from attending the Phoenix stop of the 1989 World Tour. The family hoped that Taylor would see the video “and maybe get her to share a #TeamNaomi on her Instagram.”
Luckily for her, Swift saw the video and donated $50,000 to the Oakes’ GoFundMe page to help with treatment, and also sent a personal message to Naomi.
“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
The family posted a thank you video on Tuesday, documenting Naomi’s excitement over the star’s response.
At this point, if it was revealed that Taylor Swift gets ready in the morning with the help of woodland animals, Disney princess-style, I don’t think anyone would be surprised.
