When At The Drive-In announced that they’d be reforming after a brief flirtation and a reunion show years ago, it was pretty exciting. Sure, there were a few reshufflings in the line-up, but having Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez working together is when the magic happens. The stuff that they did together in The Mars Volta may have been a bit different than At The Drive-In, but it felt like a natural progression and exploration without upsetting fans of ATDI by completely going off the deep end like they did. I’ll freely admit that I was pretty upset when The Mars Volta broke up, but if it led to an ATDI reunion that makes fans happy, that’s cool.
According to Pitchfork, there has been a bit of a wrench in their big, ongoing reunion tour, though. That wrench has to do with Cedric Bixler-Zavala and reports that he lost his voice before a show at New York City. Now the cancellation of a date in Boston and the remainder of their US shows scheduled for this leg of the tour seems to be official.
The band says that they’ll make it up to fans in the future and that current ticket holders should be seeking refunds for their current tickets, which is a bummer. For a band like At The Drive-In these reunion tickets aren’t easy to snag, meaning that these fans will have to hope that they can bottle magic twice with grabbing new tickets.
