UPDATE: A representative of Killer Mike has told The Fader that Killer Mike will not be working with Tim & Eric or their production company Abso-lutely on a new TV show. The representative cleared up the confusion in an email.
“A couple of months ago, Tim & Eric’s production company Abso-lutely was hired to provide production services for a project that Mike was a part of, but at no point were we ever developing a project with Tim & Eric or Abso, nor do we have any plans to at this time,” the representative told The FADER via email. “Sadly an outlet took a piece of information out of context and then did some flimsy “investigative journalism” by going so far to speculate a connection to a specific network, but unfortunately, that’s just false. We definitely have plans for TV but nothing to report at this time.”
ORIGINAL:
Killer Mike has made a lot of noise as an activist for social change, protesting police violence and vocally supporting Bernie Sanders. He’s also earned both critical and commercial success both alongside El-P in their rap project Run the Jewels and as a solo artist. Now, the socially conscious rapper is taking a detour into less serious, but no less interesting territory; Killer Mike will star in a TV series being developed by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.
You probably know those two gentleman as Tim and Eric, the folks behind Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job! and a lot of super weird, unsettling comedy. However, they also have a production company called Abso Lutely, which has been behind shows such as Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule, The Eric Andre Show (on which Mike has appeared twice), Nathan for You, and Comedy Bang! Bang!. Basically, if you like cult comedy, you probably are watching a show produced by Tim & Eric, and now Killer Mike is being added to the list of folks starring in shows shepherded by these two. Currently, the show has no name, and no premise, but this is still a combination worth getting excited about.
This is not Killer Mike’s first foray into comedy, though. He voiced the character of Taqu’il on Frisky Dingo, a show from the guys who make Archer, and he also voiced a Boost Mobile phone on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Basically, Killer Mike is no stranger to weird comedy, but now we have to wait and see if he can carry an entire show as a star. Would you dare doubt Killer Mike? In a world where MF DOOM can voice a giraffe, anything is possible.
