Mick Jenkins is nearly set to release his highly anticipated debut studio album, The Healing Component. After sharing “Spread Love” and “Drowning,” the Chicago rapper debuted another song from the project on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show.
“Fall Through” is jointly produced by Rascal and THEMpeople — the latter handles most of the album’s production. The introspective, conscious new track prods listeners and Jenkins himself to move past the haters and look inward to find themselves. “Of all the things you know, do you know yourself? Well enough to trust the way you go,” the Free Nation member raps.
In an interview with Zane Lowe following the debut of “Fall Through,” the 25-year-old explained the new album is just the start of his musical journey exploring love — whether it’s self-love, romantic love, or love for God.
“Some of them [songs] that didn’t work for this album are going for the next [project]. I’m taking a little bit of a different direction in the next album. I’ll still be talking about love for the next two projects that I’m working on. This is just an introduction to the idea and to the understanding that love is The Healing Component. Hopefully it starts the conversation about that, but in the meantime, I’m 10 songs into the next album.”
The Healing Component will be released on Friday, September 23. Pre-order it via iTunes.
