Seeing Taylor Swift live is to be surrounded by screaming females. And maybe even one Screaming Female, the New Jersey indie-punk band that released a new album, Rose Mountain, this year. The A.V. Club invited the group to cover “Shake It Off” as part of their Undercover Series, to which they previously contributed Sheryl Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy.”
Both are solid, but “Happy” might be better; I wish Screaming had made “Shake” more their own. Instead, it’s a fairly straight cover, until the “this. sick. beat” section. Then it gets really good.
