We all assumed that Taylor Swift was the de facto benevolent ruler of the entertainment industry, and perhaps the world. Now, there is some definitive proof that this is pretty much close to reality. Forbes has released its annual 100 highest-paid celebrities list and topping the list for 2016 is, of course, Swift.
According to Forbes, Swift leads the list with $170 million, which is a staggeringly high number, and more than double the $80 million Swift racked up last year. (For those wondering, One Direction were No. 2 with $110 million, and that’s among four people.) Remember that world tour with all the members of Swift’s squad joining her? That world tour made more than $200 million. She broke the Rolling Stones’ North American touring record in the process. That’s not even considering her various promotional deals with brands such as Diet Coke and Apple.
Swift’s ex-boyfriend, DJ Calvin Harris, is No. 21 on the list. Coming in second were the collective men of One Direction. Kevin Hart, Howard Stern, and Adele are also all in the top 10. Meanwhile, even though Kim Kardashian is only No. 42, she is featured on the cover because, well, she’s Kim Kardashian. It’s what she does.
Where does Taylor Swift go from here? What do you get the woman who has it all? Perhaps, much like Hans Gruber, Swift is somewhere softly saying to herself, “And Alexander wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer.”
