While Will Smith remains a major movie star, he’s set the musical part of his career aside for a while now. Gone are the days of songs tied to whatever blockbuster he’s working on. However, Smith made some noise with his first song in a decade, when he jumped on a remix of the Colombian group Bomba Estereo’s “Fiesta.” This was a cause for celebration, and Above Average celebrated in an odd, ridiculous way by playing all of Will Smith’s greatest hits at the same time.
This is, obviously, not practical, or even coherent. It’s not like one of those videos where, say, they play some Nickelback songs at the same time so you realize they all sound the same. Will Smith, the man behind “Wild Wild West,” “Miami,” and “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” is much more inventive than that. There is, in truth, no reason to listen to almost four minutes of Will Smith hits slammed together beyond sheer novelty. However, as far as novelties go, it’s a pretty delightful one.
So give it a listen, try and parse the various songs being played all at once, and celebrate the return of the Willennium.
