Rory McIlroy Is Back In The Lead

Despite blowing his lead at the Masters last weekend, 21-year old Rory McIlroy is back in the swing of things *punches self in nuts* leading after almost two rounds at the Malaysian Open. McIlroy is -11 and tied with Sweden’s Alexander Noren, as both of their second rounds are complete. But rain postponed the round for most of the other golfers, including Masters champion and non-choker Charl Schwartzel. In fact, 77 players were unable to finish their rounds, which would have been so much better for McIlroy had that happened on Sunday.

So how does the David Carradine of the PGA feel about his current efforts?

”It helps when you have a morning tee time here as you are up pretty early,” McIlroy said of Friday’s round. ”I went out and played well, and holed a couple of putts. I’ve been driving the ball pretty good, which you need to around here.” (Via Fox Sports)

Exciting stuff. But his performance is quite impressive, especially displaying his maturity, but all the more remarkable considering the news he received when he arrived in Kuala Lumpur, which sadly boasts no koala bears. The airline lost Rory’s golf clubs the day before he was set to tee off. Obviously, the clubs arrived in time for him to kill the ball again, but you have to start thinking that maybe you’ve angered the gods when you blow the Masters with a horrendous triple bogey and then your clubs disappear.

But at least Rory can sleep comfortably tonight knowing that Kevin Na is out there carding 16 strokes on one hole. Hell, me and my terrible short game can sleep better knowing that.
