Utah Fooled Everyone And Scored An Easy Touchdown On This Great Punt Return Trick Play

Oregon got totally embarrassed in their matchup against Utah, and they fell victim to some trickery in the process. The Ducks’ special teams unit fell right down the trap door when the Utes attempted a fake fair catch punt return during the third quarter of the blowout in Eugene.

Utah’s normal punt returner appeared to camp under the ball on the left side of the field, drawing Oregon’s defenders to him before waving for the fair catch that never came. Instead, the ball headed to the other side of the field, where it was hauled in by an uncovered returner who only had a few Ducks in pursuit as he took it all the way to the house for a fairly easy 69-yard touchdown. Nice.

It was a very similar play to the one that the St. Louis Rams ran – finding similar results – last NFL season. It’s hard to blame Oregon for falling for it, too, especially considering the shenanigans were executed well enough to even trick the camera operator for FOX’s broadcast.

I’m sure that’s little consolation for the Ducks, who got their feathers plucked in an important test early this season.
