X-Ray Specs Are Finally A Reality, But You Can’t Have Them

Whoever invented X-Ray Spex is a genius; it’s just a feather pressed between two pieces of cardboard, but that’s enough to get a few bucks out of unsuspecting kids for decades. But somebody has finally created x-ray specs for real, but you’ll need to be a doctor or nurse to get your hands on a pair.

Before you ask, this wasn’t designed to see through clothes. So unless you’re really, really into aortas, the last frontier of privacy hasn’t been stripped away yet. Sorry, pervs.

Instead, Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses System, which combines a proprietary 3D modelling system with some commercially available camera glasses to allow people to look under your skin. Why? To prevent you from becoming a pincushion.

“Studies have shown that up to 40% of IV starts require multiple attempts to locate and access a vein… With Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses, nurses can quickly and easily locate and access the best veins for each patient – even in challenging clinical environments such as pediatric or neonatal units.”

In other words, instead of having to try and find a vein with a needle, and possibly stabbing you multiple times with something pointy, a nurse can just slap these on, see that a vein is viable right away, and get you pumped full of drugs. Having been on the receiving end of an IV re-do once or twice, while it’s not the most annoying thing about being in the hospital, it’s not exactly a good time, either, so it’s nice to see technology helping us out here. As for when you might be able to see under people’s clothes, just use the Internet, like the rest of us.
