HBO has released a behind-the-scenes featurette on the fourth season of Game of Thrones, and if you’re not a book reader, some of it won’t mean much at all. I am not a book reader, and my first time watching it, I didn’t pick up on much, except for a certain glimpse at a certain fourth season wedding that even non-book readers would have had a difficult time not hearing about, if they spend any time on the Internet. However, the Game of Thrones tumblr account, Winter is Coming, took many screen shots of the featurette, and labeled them, and in doing so, gave away some spoilers. The spoilers were not enough, in my opinion as a non-book reader, to ruin anything except for the very last image, which allows us to deduce a major plot turn (though, it may be a major misdirection). If you don’t want to know anything going into the fourth season (which premieres on April 6th), then scoot on out of here before you go any further, because these images may give away much more than you’d like to know.
Warning: Spoilers
It appears as though Jamie Lannister gets a replacement hand.
Here’s a look at the Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne, aka The Red Viper.
And here’s a showdown presumably between The Mountain and the Red Viper.
This appears to be a glimpse at the much hyped Purple Wedding.
Here is an early look at Styr, the Magnar of Thenn, with whom I believe book readers are quite familiar.
Here’s a Jon Snow battle scene.
Here’s a couple of shots of Daenerys Targaryen, because why not?
I’m not sure we’ve seen any images of Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) as Tycho Nestoris, but here he is talking with Davos and Stannis.
Finally, this image sees Tywin Lannister on the Iron Throne, along with Mace Tyrell, The Red Viper, Cersei Lannister, Margaery Tyrell, and maybe Tommen and Loras.
And here’s the full behind-the-scenes featurette, in case you can spot more spoilers/items of interest.

Looks like Stannis and Davos go to Braavos, which is definitely a departure from the books.
Hopefully they were at least invited to Braavos, which would be a little more consistent with the continuity of the books.
That whole plot line about the debt to the bank of Braavos is Book 4 stuff. Which makes sense that they would try to incorporate the first half of Book 4 into season 3 since the first part of Book 4 is terrible.
I think some of the fourth book is going to be expedited along with the second half of the third, since they haven’t really got to Barristan telling Dany about her brother (from ASoS), they probably won’t commit to the flashbacks (from AFFC) …maybe reserving it for a prequel?
So if they want the fifth book to be the fifth season, they have to somehow present and expose some (characters as well as situations) beforehand?
If you think of all the minor but decisive characters they merge or down right replaced to smooth things up (and it isn’t a reproach, far from it, the people on the Walking Dead should take notes on GoT’s masterclass of adaptation), it is a possibility.
They’re going to have to make some changes, just to counteract the way Books 4 and 5 only focus on certain characters. I’m guessing they’ll combine 4 and 5 together and play it out over 2 seasons.
“The challenge was to fuel the story with excitement”
I take this to mean that we aren’t going to see any more of Dany.
Zing! At least not until the end of her ADWD storyline.
Sploosh.
