A couple weeks ago, Madlib headed up to the Bay Area to facilitate an after-party. We already know he’s among the best in terms of producing (see: his Freddie Gibbs collabs), but it’s well worth your time to listen to him flex his muscle behind the turntables. As a DJ, it’s not just cutting, scratching, and transitioning from tune to tune. It’s the actual song selection itself, that speaks volumes to the dexterity and taste of the DJ.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone more skilled than Questlove in that aspect, but Madlib definitely gives the Roots drummer a run for his money in this set.
