Watch This Harrowing Rescue Of A Pregnant Dog Buried Alive Under A Paved Sidewalk

The stray dog in this video would have surely perished, trapped in a sinkhole which had been carelessly paved over by workers, had it not been for the quick thinking of two Good Samaritans. Vadim Rustam and his wife Aleksandra of the Russian city Voronezh say that just before they left town, they noticed workers had arrived to patch up a sinkhole that had been outside of their apartment building for three weeks.

When the couple returned two days later, however, they heard whining and barking coming from underneath the sidewalk. After they alerted the city, which refused to do anything for the dog — as I’m sure it will come as a huge surprise that Russia would be less than sensitive to the plight of a stray dog — Vadim and Aleksandra decided to take matters into their own hands.

“We were shocked,” Aleksandra told Bloknot-Voronezh. We rushed to ask the neighbors what had happened. They only told us that the workers had fixed the hole…

I don’t believe that they just failed to notice the dog. It’s not a hamster. The workers probably just didn’t want to make an effort and retrieve the animal. The neighbors also proved to be indifferent. They understood the poor creature got trapped. But who wants to waste their time, getting their hands dirty? No one cared.”

Sadly, the dog, which has been named Belka, lost her puppies after two days of starvation and dehydration. She has since been taken to a local shelter where she is recovering and will hopefully soon be up for adoption.
