Kobe Bryant the basketball player was a ruthless killer who had no issue steamrolling others in his never-ending quest to win championships. Kobe Bryant the retired basketball player is a guy who tweets every once in a while. He usually tweets about #brands and variations on the word “muse.” It is incredibly weird but also makes him a must-follow on Twitter.
For example, the first game of the 2017 NBA Finals was on Thursday night. This was the most anticipated Finals in a long, long time, the rubber match in a trilogy between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. It seemed like everyone was tweeting about it.
That is everyone except for Kobe, of course. Instead, he was busy congratulating a fellow Nike athlete – Diana Taurasi – on setting the WNBA’s all-time three-point record.
Congrats @DianaTaurasi on being the @WNBA all time 3pt leader #Legend

From a basketball perspective, this is an awesome accomplishment for Taurasi. One of the best players in WNBA history, she set the record by going 8-for-14 in a 37-point performance during Phoenix’s 99-91 win over Chicago. It’s also a testament to her longevity (she turns 34 later this month and is in her 13th professional season) and scoring ability.
As for Kobe, it is the latest chapter into his Twitter account more or less becoming a PR machine who really likes soccer. Here are his last four tweets/retweets beyond his celebration of Taurasi.

In order, that’s a quote tweet of an article from The Players’ Tribune (where he sometimes writes stuff), a Body Armor retweet, him paying homage to legendary Italian footballer Francesco Totti, and him saying that USWNT forward Sydney LeRoux Dwyer is “back in her musecage.”
When he’s not helping students get out of taking finals, Kobe’s Twitter account really is something else.
