A “Space Jam” sequel with LeBron James is said to be in the making, but the details of the project are paper-thin at best. However, we do know now that Nike will be releasing its Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” shoes later this year, according to Matt Halfhill of Nicekicks.com:
The Space Jam 11 returns in 2016 for the 20th anniversary in collaboration with Warner Brothers. It has been confirmed that Jordan Brand has worked directly with Warner Brothers on special licensing on apparel and accessories that hook to the Air Jordan 11s.
It should be noted that the actual date of the release of the Space Jam film was on November 15, 1996. Perhaps we will see the Space Jam 11s drop in November of 2016? We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
As we know, the XIs are one of the most iconic silhouettes in Air Jordan history, even if one brazen fan thought it would be a good idea to heckle His Airness when he debuted them during Chicago’s 72-10 season.
NiceKicks also notes that it’s been seven years since the last time Nike released a line of Air Jordan “Space Jam” shoes. Though an exact date for the upcoming release hasn’t been pinned down, hopefully the tentative timeline means we’re also getting closer to an actual release date for the long-awaited motion picture sequel. With the way licensing agreements work now, cross branding and promotions like these usually mean something’s afoot.
So to speak.
