Russell Westbrook Says It Would Have Been ‘An Honor’ To Top Michael Jordan’s Triple-Double Record

Just in case you’ve somehow forgotten Russell Westbrook’s 2014-15 reign of terror, this is a quick reminder that the Thunder point guard tied Michael Jordan’s record of consecutive triple-doubles by rattling off four in a row in March. Unfortunately, Westbrook wasn’t able to beat MJ’s record. As he told Jimmy Kimmel Live, though, it would have been an honor to do so. It won’t be surprising if Westbrook gets another opportunity to beat that record, and it’ll be just a bit more surprising if he actually succeeds in breaking it.

Perhaps more notable than Westbrook’s desire to beat Jordan’s record was his pre-game ritual.

Given how furious Westbrook is on the court, one might expect his pre-game ritual to include a lot of screaming, hitting walls, or maybe even hunting some sort of animal with his bare hands. In reality, Westbrook’s pre-game habits focus on calming him down (which leads us to question their efficacy).

First, Westbrook takes a nap – no longer than an hour. This is one of the more common activities for basketball players before a game. After the nap comes the incredibly specific peanut butter and jelly, undoubtedly chosen because it’s a great source of protein, as well as the fact that it’s just always delicious. If anything, this is a bit of a let down. Westbrook is a singular character in the NBA, and we expected something just a little more off the grid when it comes to his pre-game preparation.
