Tony Scott Directing Mark Millar’s Evil Batman

By / 08.09.10

Bleeding Cool reports (and Deadline and Mark Millar himself confirm) that Tony Scott has signed on to direct an adaptation of Mark Millar and Steven McNiven’s Nemesis, which released its first issue just last March. Well, that was fast.  Millar said on his forum that Fox is giving them a budget much larger than both Wanted and Kick-Ass combined.  Tony Scott is known for directing other big-budget fare like Top Gun, The Last Boy Scout, and Man on Fire, while Nemesis is known as a reverse Batman (also my favorite sexual position).

Nemesis focuses on Matt Anderson [Ed.- who bid highest in the auction to name the character after himself], a billionaire genius who’s the world’s greatest fighter. bent on avenging the death of his beloved parents. The twist is, they were villains and he is also a bad guy, a costumed vigilante who travels the world, picking off top cops. He returns to D.C. to launch a campaign of terror against Blake Morrow, the police chief who captured the caped vigilante’s parents. [Deadline]

Millar has posted in the past that, even though Blake Morrow is white in the comic, he’d like to see him played by Denzel Washington.  Scott has directed Washington in four movies in the past six years, so if anybody could make that casting happen, he could.  On the other hand, Tony Scott is already producing and/or directing Potsdamer Platz, Hell’s  Angels, and The Associate, and is currently working on Unstoppable, so I wouldn’t expect Nemeses to start shooting anytime soon.
