Benedict Cumberbatch Is ‘Doctor Strange’, For Real This Time. Marvel Announced It.

Today must be International “Let’s Kill All The Bloggers” Day, because the studios are colluding to give us a heart attack. Between the whole Suicide Squad cast being announced, a Terminator Genisys trailer, Jessica Jones being cast, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool moving forward, I was already “can’t even”-ing. And now this.

Marvel has finally confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the titular medical professional of unusual disposition. If you’re having déjà vu, that’s because I’ve called him “the titular medical professional of unusual disposition” several times before. And because we already reported he was cast.

Well, now it’s official, for really real this time. Boy, we were really fooled by Marvel’s denials.

Here’s the meaty part of the press release, via /film, which also informs us the release date will be November 4th, 2016, not July 2016 as originally planned. Probably because this took them awhile to negotiate, and because Doctor Strange is more of a Halloween season sort of movie anyhow.

Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts.

The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

We hope the movie is two hours of Benedict Cumberbatch trying to pronounce the word penguin.
