Channing Tatum gave another candid interview yesterday, this time to Howard Stern on SiriusXM. The part of greatest interest to me is when he laughed and sighed upon hearing the title of 2009’s G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, a reaction which of course prompted Stern to dig a little deeper to get Tatum’s honest opinion about the film. Burnsy mentioned this all yesterday, but we now have the audio clip available below.

“Look, I’ll be honest. I f**king hate that movie. I hate that movie. I was pushed into doing that movie. [After] Coach Carter, they signed me for a three-picture deal […] And as a young [actor], you’re like, ‘Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I’m doing that!’ “

By the time Paramount started making the film nearly four years later, Tatum’s career was already in a better place, and, in his own words, “The script wasn’t any good.” Even though he says it could have been worse, he makes it clear that he had no choice because he’d already signed a contract: “You’re doing this or we’re gonna sue you.

We imagine that’s also what he was told when he arrived to the set of Jupiter Ascending and was handed the roller blades and elf ears he would be wearing all day for the next several weeks.
