How ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Is Explaining The Arrival Of Spider-Man

One question a lot of nerds have been asking is, if Peter Parker is in Captain America: Civil War… where was he before? Why is he only turning up now? A new rumor supposedly has the answer.

According to Heroic Hollywood, Spider-Man has been doing hero-y things for about a year in the timeline of the movie. It’s just that he’s seen as an urban legend that nobody takes seriously. You know, because Norse gods, Russian superspies, tech geniuses in personal weapons platforms, and WWII heroes trapped in stasis for 60 years, come on, you see that all the time, but a teenager sticking to walls and beating up muggers? Preposterous!

Also, we’re guessing that whole “take photos of your exploits for the tabloids and sell them” angle is going by the boards if Spider-Man is just an urban legend. Which is weird, because I’m pretty sure Peter could go to college on just one good shot of Spidey he puts on wire services. Also, when he kicks off yet another reboot in 2017, he’ll have been Spider-Man for two years, so they’re pretty serious about skipping this origin story business and getting right to the good stuff.

I’m not a traditionalist when it comes to comic-book movies; I care more about the movie being good than depicting a 50-year-old story beat for beat. That said, I admit this is kind of a headscratcher, but hopefully one Captain America: Civil War will answer.
