‘Suicide Squad’ Actress Thinks Jared Leto Was Great ‘Even When He Was Going To Get His Mic Checked’

Meet Corina Calderon, a Mexican-American actress who first found acclaim in Suicide Squad director David Ayer’s 2012 film, End of Watch. She plays an otherwise unknown character named Grace in the upcoming DC Comics supervillains movie, and while she wasn’t able to tell the folks at HHB Media all that much about her character, Calderon did sing actor Jared Leto’s praises for his portrayal of the iconic Joker.

“As the Joker, he is brilliant,” she told the interviewer between bits of nervous laughter about the film’s heightened secrecy. “I was amazed, just fascinated, mesmerized watching him. Even when he was going to get his mic checked in between scenes.”

“Watching him really gave me this whole new freedom as an actress. I feel brave, I feel ballsy watching him go. It was an amazing lesson.”

Leto’s performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad has garnered multiple rounds of kudos from his fellow actors and actresses ever since production wrapped in August. Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) told the New York Daily News that her co-star’s preference for method acting “petrified” her, especially because she quickly became accustomed to always seeing Leto in makeup and not without. In early October, Will Smith (Deadshot) admitted during a Beats 1 radio interview that he “never actually met Jared Leto” during production. “We worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’”

Considering that Leto himself thinks he’ll be locked away for his performance, we’ll just have to wait and see how mesmerizing his take on the iconic DC Comics villain actually is when Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 6, 2016.
