Magnets Can Turn You Into A Lefty

You know when you reflexively reach out a hand to do something without thinking like pushing a button or smacking someone you can’t stand? Well, it turns out your brain isn’t wired to use a particular hand, its just that the parietal cortex quickly decides which hand to use for any given job. And now, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley have found that  they can seriously screw up that process using magnets to switch your favored hands from right to left and vice versa.

The technique, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, apparently disrupts the neurons the brain uses to decide between the two hands, leading the unfavored hand to become dominant and turning righties into lefties. Why should anyone care? Well, the plan is to use this on stroke victims who’ve lost control of their dominant limbs, forcing them to use them again.(Also, we’re betting it’d really provide an interesting way to really liven up your boring old first-person-shooters.)
