Jai Courtney Confirms ‘Suicide Squad’ Reshoots, But Probably Not For The Reason You Thought

Suicide Squad is currently doing some reshoots in Los Angeles, reportedly to add more humor after Batman V Superman box office returns experienced a big drop, prompting shifting schedules for other Warner movies. The rumors about adding more jokes were also seemingly confirmed by some of the chatter around the set:

But someone closer to the reshoots — Australian actor Jai Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang — says the reshoots aren’t about adding jokes, because there were already plenty of those (a claim the newest trailer would also support).

In the video above, Courtney tells Entertainment Tonight, “I wouldn’t say we’re going back to make it funnier. There’s some additional action stuff we’ve been doing which is pretty dope. […] Don’t believe everything you read.”

He also reiterated a sentiment he’s expressed in the past, when he previously admitted he “cringed” when he heard his character’s name was Captain Boomerang. As Courtney tells ET, “The genesis [Ed.- Genisys?] of that character was in like really camp ’60s comics, and, like, you read that old material and he’s racist. It’s a cliche, old Aussie stereotype.”

It’s a good thing they aren’t doing any Aussie stereotypes in this one…

See? Just a bloke sneaking a beer while breaking the law. Not a single giant spider or didgeridoo to be seen.
