The ‘X-Men’ Series Hints At The Future By Signing Tye Sheridan Up For Two More Films

Fox has a lot of plans for its X-Men Universe – Wolverine 3, Deadpool 2 and New Mutants are all happening, and Gambit and X-Force movies are on the “probably, most likely, definitely happening” list. But what about the core X-Men series? Bryan Singer has hinted X-Men: Apocalypse will be “the birth of a new direction,” but beyond that we don’t have many specifics. Will favorites like James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence be returning? What about the new cast of youngsters that’s been brought in for Apocalypse? Well, it seems the answer to the later question is a big “yes.”

A recent Entertainment Weekly interview with the new Cyclops, Tye Sheridan, confirms the young actor has signed on to do two more X-Men movies after Apocalypse. It’s a seemingly small tidbit, but it’s one of the first solid chunks of info we’ve got about what might happen after X-Men: Apocalypse. It also hints strongly that the rest of the new, young X-Men crew will be making a return. If Sheridan is coming back, it seems unlikely Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) won’t be back, as well. The number of movies Sheridan has signed on for is also interesting – X-Men: Apocalypse is being described as the end of a trilogy that started with X-Men: First Class, but could it also be the beginning of a new trilogy?

But of course, the future also depends on how X-Men: Apocalypse is received. That will be decided when the movie hits theaters, May 27.
