It’s Impossible Not To Smile At These Police Officers Issuing Ice Cream To Drivers They Pull Over

With tensions between police and citizens currently at an all-time high, two officers from Halifax, Virginia, did something over the weekend that might help change a few minds. In a video originally posted to Facebook that’s now been viewed more than 300,000 times, Police Chief Kevin Lands and Officer Brian Warner pull over a female driver and her passenger.

Officer Warner says to the woman, “Good afternoon ma’am. My name is Officer Warner and I am with the Halifax Police Department. Do you know the reason why I pulled you over today?” Nervously, the woman responds, “No. I mean, no sir.” He continues asking her, “Are you familiar with vehicle code 1.7.3.9?” Again, the driver shakes her head.

He explains: “Well it’s actually against the law to drive on a hot day without an ice cream cone. So on behalf of the Halifax Police Department, we’re just making sure everybody is following all the laws today and are driving with ice cream.” The relief instantly washes over her face, and her laughter is infectious as the officer hands over two ice cream cones for her and her passenger, who tells him to “have a wonderful, blessed day.”

When asked why they did it, Chief Lands told Virginia’s ABC 6 that he and Officer Warner just “wanted to try and put some smiles on people’s faces.” Mission accomplished. The world could use more cops like these two.
