Mark Wahlberg Says Michael Bay Will Direct ‘Transformers 5’

While everyone surrounds themselves with the news that Akiva Goldsman is curating and managing a Transformers brain trust of writers over at Paramount, most forget that the last film starred Mark Wahlberg and was directed (yet again) by Michael Bay. Plus, since Wahlberg let slip that Transformers 5 was on the way (with him in it), it’s highly likely that he and Bay will team up yet again. Besides, the action director’s still attached to the property as an executive producer.

According to Wahlberg’s recent interview with Collider, however, Bay might be doing more than signing the checks when Transformers 5 begins production:

Do you have any update on the status of Transformers 5? Have you heard anything about what’s going on?

WAHLBERG: I don’t. Just that Akiva [Goldsman] and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I’m in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We’ll get together when he gets back.

Do you think he’ll still ultimately direct it?

WAHLBERG: Yes.

Uh, so yeah. That happened. Or, it will happen.

Bay’s busy directing his Benghazi dramatization 13 Hours, but with Goldsman’s writers churning out new content for Paramount’s toy-based cinematic universe, he’s sure to stick around for a few more explosions.
