Turns out it wasn’t all fun and games on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Sure, running around with a BB-8 model looks like nothing but a rollicking good time, but Daisy Ridley admits in a recent interview that J.J. Abrams had some semi-harsh words for her early on in the filming process. On the very first day of filming, Abrams criticized her acting skills and Ridley took it hard due to the stress she was under wanting to succeed. According to The TelegraphRidley tells the story as such:

“Because JJ…he probably doesn’t remember telling me that my performance was wooden. This was the first day! And I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was gonna cry, I couldn’t breathe. And there was so many crew there, because obviously all the creatures [had stand-ins], and there were loads of extra crew making sure everyone was safe ’cause it was so hot. It was awful.”

Ouch, JJ! All in the worthwhile pursuit of perfection, though. The new Star Wars film has fans everywhere scrambling for opening night tickets and all the plot details they can get their hands on hoping that this sequel will be the antidote to some truly terrible prequels.

From all the TV spots and trailers that have been released so far, it looks as if those early remarks from J.J. did Ridley good as she looks great in all of the footage. At this point, only a surprise appearance from JarJar Binks could ruin the excitement fans have for Ridley’s character Rey taking over Luke Skywalker’s hero role. And even that might be acceptable if she gets to have a full-on lightsaber battle with Kylo Ren. I guess what I’m saying is J.J. can criticize all he likes as long as the movie is still coming out on December 18th in all of its light side/dark side glory. Bring on the showdown!
