Furiosa Lines From ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ For When You Need To Be A Total Badass

When Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is first introduced by the tyrannical Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) in Mad Max: Fury Road (which is a part of Warner Bros.’ Holiday Gift Guide), he speaks of her with a distinct admiration. A battle-hardened lieutenant behind the wheel of a notorious War Rig, Furiosa sets out on what seems like a routine supply run for fuel and ammo from the usual places — Gas Town and The Bullet Farm, respectively. That is, until she veers off the path, informing her party that they’re now simply headed east.

Before long, it’s revealed that she’s smuggled out Immortan Joe’s five captive wives with the intention of taking them to the idyllic Green Place she remembers from her youth. All considering, it’s a pretty dangerous plan, and while the help of apocalyptic loner/Road Warrior Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) proves to be invaluable, none of it would’ve worked had it not been for Furiosa’s unshakeable strength and ultimate badassery.

To celebrate the dissenting Imperator, here are eight essential quotes from Furiosa to help you channel your own inner badass.

“Out here, everything hurts. You wanna get through this? Do as I say. Now pick up what you can and run.”

When she asks the pregnant bride Angharad (Rose Huntington-Whitely) how she feels after one of Max’s bullets grazes her leg, she responds simply that “it hurts.” Furiosa then wastes no time telling the former captive that, under no uncertain terms, this is exactly how things work in this world of fire and blood. And, of course, Furiosa says it all with unquestionable authority.

“When I yell ‘fool,’ you drive out of here as fast as you can.”

As Furiosa tries to work out a quick plan with Max despite his refusal to tell her his name, she simply gives him one. Furiosa doesn’t have the time to put up with anyone’s sh*t.

“Yeah, well, I was unlucky.”

We’ve all had days that start promising but end up a frustrating, downright chaotic mess. Much like when Furiosa has to make good on her delivery of fuel to the biker clan that guards the pathway through the canyons in exchange for her safe passage. While she’d originally told them to plan on a couple of vehicles in pursuit, she ends up bringing a rather sizable army that is closing in behind her. This, of course, sours her deal, but instead of letting it get to her, she simply shrugs it off and mutters this line to herself before handling her business.

“Don’t breathe.”

Possibly the biggest moment that shows off the dynamic between Furiosa and Max, as The Bullet Farmer gets closer, Max takes takes two of the three shots they have left, missing them both. Shortly thereafter, he gives the gun to Furiousa, and she rests it on Max’s shoulder, giving Max this simple piece of advice. Naturally, she makes the shot while also showing that teamwork makes the dream work.

“I’m gonna go down and do some repairs.”

On its own, this might not come across as a particularly impressive line, until you realize that the War Rig is still in motion, and will remain so while these repairs are being done. That’s when you realize it’s not just what you say, but how you act.

“That’s not his blood.”

After Max comes back from taking care of The Bullet Farmer, the others work to free the War Rig from the mud. Max’s blood-splattered appearance concerns Toast (Zoe Kravitz), who wonders if he’s hurt and bleeding. Furiosa, in the meantime, not only gets to drop this line, but she gets to sound cool doing it.

“…redemption.”

When Furiosa explains to Max her plan to take Immortan Joe’s brides back to her childhood home in Green Place, he scoffs at the idea, not being a big believer in hope. However, when Max asks her why she chose to risk everything to do so, she gives her reason in this one, simple word.

“My clan is Swaddle Dog!”

It’s important to know where you came from. It’s also important to not give a damn if people judge you for being from a place called, ‘Swaddle Dog.’

Pro tip: don’t try this one out right away. This is one you’re going to have to work up to.

“Remember me?”

As Furiosa comes closer on her path to redemption, she manages to work in a little bit of vengeance along the way. That’s the thing about being a total badass — it requires a lot of determination regardless of your circumstance. And since none of us live in a post-nuclear apocalyptic future that reduces humanity down to the instinct of survival, this puts you at a clear advantage in the meantime.
