Watch The ‘Power Rangers’ Trailer Recut With Clips From The Original Show

The Power Rangers are returning to the big screen in March, and a recently released teaser trailer finally offered a look at how they’ll look on the big screen. But amid the sensitive Johnny Cash covers and Breakfast Club-meets-superheroes vibe, some wondered if the cheesy spirit of the original was lost. Well, not if this retro trailer can help it!

Honestly, it’s a bit neck and neck which movie we’d want to see more. The modern trailer looks like it has better special effects and action sequences, but the retro trailer seems to be just a wee bit more lighthearted. Then again, the modern version will have Bryan Cranston, who seems excited about it, so that’s a plus.

Joking aside, we would like to see a bit more of what Power Rangers has to offer. The teaser trailer doesn’t even really put them in the outfits, let alone show off any giant robots or kaiju, or even ground-level fistfights. You’d be forgiven for thinking it was a Chronicle sequel. Of course, for all we know, they’re waiting to spring the home ec hijinks and useless bullies on us in a later trailer, and if nothing else, a serious Power Rangers is a nice change of pace.
