After 33 Years, Mötley Crüe Will Call It Quits

There used to be a time when a band announced that it was breaking up and that meant that things were done, preferably because two or more members wanted to murder each other. These days, bands are announcing their breakups up to two years in advance so they can squeeze every last penny out of their fans with a “final tour” that may or may not actually be a final tour. The latest band to pull this routine is Mötley Crüe, as Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and Mick Mars held a press conference at Beachers Madhouse at the Roosevelt Hotel today to announce that after three decades of hard rock and excess everything, the band is breaking up.

HOWEVER, that’s only after the band plays its farewell tour, which is fittingly named “Final Tour,” and that consists of 70 shows with tickets going on sale this Friday. But the guys are so serious that this is their FINAL TOUR that they even signed a contract at their press conference that confirmed that they will never reunite and play together as Mötley Crüe again. Because if there’s one thing in this life that is unbreakable, it’s the bond of a meaningless contract that carries no real consequences.

Regardless, Mötley Crüe is finally done, which will certainly come as a shock to many people who thought that the band already broke up years ago. There have been highs (figurative and literal) and many, many lows, but in the end, we’ll always have “Kickstart My Heart.”
