People mostly know Rod Stewart as a solo artist, but before he took off all by himself, he was the singer for Faces, a reconfigured version of the group The Small Faces. Faces are a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band in their own right, with notable songs such as “Ooh La La” and “Stay With Me” to their name. However, Stewart left the band in 1975, and he hasn’t reunited with them since. He was supposed to join them for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2012, but he unfortunately had to back out due to illness. Finally, 40 years after leaving the band, Stewart is reuniting with Faces.

The reunion will take place September 5 at the Rock ‘n’ Horsepower Festival at the Hurtwood Polo Club in Ewhurst, Surrey, UK. That’s about the most British place one could have a music festival. The event, the third annual, was started to support fighting prostate cancer, so it’s obviously a good cause, and a great opportunity for Stewart to reunite with Kenney Jones and Ronnie Wood.

It won’t be a complete reunion, because Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan have died in the intervening years, but the draw for the band is clearly Stewart, so it’s still exciting. It will be particularly resonant when he sings, “I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger.”
