Ed Sheeran’s New Music Video Weirdly Combines Nickelback And ‘Boyhood’

We didn’t really need Spotify to tell us that Ed Sheeran’s music was an incredibly helpful sleep aid, but did you know it could turn you into a blubbering mess of emotion? If not, then you should check out the music video for “Photograph,” the “Thinking Out Loud” singer’s fifth and final single from his highly successful album x.

The video, which hit YouTube on Saturday, features collected home movies of wee little Sheeran being a baby, wearing monstrously large glasses, and playing his first musical instruments. Basically, it combines the ideas behind Richard Linklater’s phenomenally successful Boyhood with Nickelback’s also-successful-but-highly-regretted “Photograph.”

What kind of person would ever had the idea of combining two such drastically different things? That’d be director Emil Nava, who also directed the video for Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” I’m assuming he had this in mind, of course. Either way, I appreciate anyone’s efforts to help us forget Nickelback.
