Young Thug has done nothing to hide his admiration of Lil Wayne. He’s called Weezy his favorite artist of all time, mentioned that he planned on titling his album Tha Carter VI and clearly draws tons of stylistic inspiration from Tunechi. So it comes as no surprise that the two eventually collaborated on the London On The Track-produced “Take Kare,” the first single from Rich Gang 2.
Being so similar, the pair are almost inseparable on the track as both employ Wayne’s renowned slurry, marble-mouthed delivery. During the second verse, they distinguish themselves more clearly and it’s actually the rawer, less developed Thugger who creates some separation. While Wayne returns to his newer flow and vocal tone it’s when Thug shifts into his own unorthodox cadences and delivery that he’s able to steal the scene from his idol.
I have to admit these two are getting off to a good start in what will surely be a long storied history of collaborations. At least if Thugger has anything to say about it.
