Pearl Jam Rocked In The Free World With Stephen Colbert On ‘The Late Show’

While the bulk of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘s initial run has been impressive, you could argue one of the brightest spots has been the music. Kendrick Lamar’s performance was incredible, Run The Jewels were fantastic, and now rock veterans Pearl Jam showed up to the Late Show with a double shot for us.

While promoting their appearance at the Global Citizen Festival, an event created to end povery by 2030, the band performed “Mind Your Manners” from 2013’s Lightning Bolt. The whole show featured promotion about the festival taking place this weekend in New York City on Sept. 26 with performances from other artists like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay. The festival will also be available to livestream on their site.

After a pretty heavy, brutal performance, the band decided to lighten things up and Stephen even joined the grunge legends for a performance of their famous cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin In The Free World.”

You can really tell whenever Stephen truly nerds out and has fun. Thankfully, with his new role on The Late Show, he’s not in character, so he can serve that kind of role a little more often. He definitely looked like a natural up there with Eddie Vedder, even in a suit. It’s not as good as “Charlene,” but what could be.
