Our Latest J. Cole And Kendrick Collab Album Update Comes From Ab-Soul

It’s been over a year since J. Cole teased he was dropping something “scary” with Kendrick Lamar. Over a whole entire year and we still haven’t received anything. In that time, however, we’ve gotten untitled unmastered. from Kendrick and most recently, 4 Your Eyez Only from Cole. And that’s all perfectly fine, but it’s still no collaboration album. So what’s the deal?

Over the summer, Dreamville president Ibrahim Hamad gave us a non-update update by calling Cole a “little mad scientist” and that the collaboration would be “worth the wait.” Four months later, Ab-Soul goes on The Breakfast Club to discuss his Do What Thou Wilt album and dangles the Kendrick x Cole carrot with help from Charlamagne Tha God.

“There’s a Kendrick [and Cole] album. They got something in the works. They been working on that motherf*cking for a while,” the Black Lip Bastard said after some prodding from Charlamagne. Soulo did try to keep it coy, though, saying Cole and Kendrick “move like the mob” and that “you never know” with them. What he is hopeful for however is that his verse makes it on the mystery project. “I don’t know too much [about how many songs they got, but I hope they use my verse. They just need to use my verse.”

This thing has been in the works for so long that it’s virtually impossible to live up to the hype. We might as well set the release date for Neveruary along with Dr. Dre’s Detox and Jay Electronica’s phantom album.
