Miami Blew A 24-Point Lead, But Somehow Managed To Still Beat Nebraska

Miami opened up a 17-0 lead against Nebraska and seemingly put the game to bed with a 27-3 lead midway through the third quarter, but a fourth quarter collapse let the Cornhuskers back into the game with three touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the final eight minutes.

Nebraska played it patient, scoring three touchdowns in the 4th on drives of 75, 80 and 87 yards before tying the game with just seconds left, while Miami’s previously unstoppable offense stalled on two consecutive drives.

Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was both the hero and the goat for the afternoon, throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns to bring his team back from a seemingly certain loss. Unfortunately, Armstrong then quickly turned the ball over with his third interception of the day on the first play of overtime. A late hit on the interception return set Miami up for a chip-shot field goal that Michael Badgley made to seal the win.

It was the second heartbreaking loss this year for Nebraska fans, who saw their team lose on a last-second hail-mary to BYU on the opening weekend. The worst part about it? Miami’s interception in overtime was snagged by none other than Miami defensive back Corn Elder.
