World’s Greatest Professor Is Postponing His Midterm For Cubs Fans

It’s not often that a Cubs fan will have a chance to attend a playoff game that doubles as a clinching game. Sure, some fans may have been lucky enough to have been at Turner Field in Atlanta back in 2003 when the Cubs beat the Braves in Game 5 of the NLDS. But believe it or not, that is the only time in the team’s history when they’ve won a playoff game that advanced them to the next round. This Wednesday, they will have the opportunity to do it for a second time as they head to PNC Park in Pittsburgh to face the Pirates in the wild-card game.

One Cubs fan from the University of Illinois was lucky enough to get his hands on tickets, but unfortunately he still had one obstacle in his way: school. With a midterm coming up on Thursday, there would be no way for him to get back in time for it after spending the night in Pittsburgh on Wednesday. So, he took a shot and emailed his professor, hoping to get an extension. Incredibly, the professor obliged and postponed it for the following day.

It’s been mentioned in this space before, but these are the types of feel-good stories that teams always seem to have as they’re about to make an extended playoff run. Last year it was the Royals. Is this the year for the Cubs?
