Rolando McClain is a very talented linebacker that has had issues staying on the field. Things got so bad for him at one point that the former eighth overall pick retired in 2013 at the age of 23. However, he decided to return to football, found himself traded to the Cowboys, and has been showing the talent that made him such a desirable player out of college. However, his off the field issues are rearing their ugly head again, and McClain now finds himself suspended for 10 games to begin the season.

McClain’s suspension comes from a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. This will be the second season in a row where he will be suspended for such a violation. Last year, he missed the first four games of the season due to suspension, but this year really cranks it up another notch with him missing 10.

While he has played well with the Cowboys, in 25 games he has 161 tackles, three sacks, and three interceptions, he’s also only on a one-year deal. Considering that McClain is facing a year-long suspension for another violation of the substance abuse policy, McClain’s time with the Cowboys, and in the NFL, may be coming to a close in the not too distant future.

This was the second suspension the NFL handed down today, along with Johnny Manziel’s four-game suspension.
