No doubt influenced by fellow welterweight Georges St-Pierre’s epic cameo in Steven Seagal’s Killing Salazar, it appears that Donald Cerrone is the latest MMA fighter to turn his eyes toward the bright lights of Hollywood.

In addition to scoring a walk-on role in the upcoming season of FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the bonus king and possible Super Saiyan revealed on “The Joe Rogan Experience” yesterday that he had been cast in an upcoming western series on Netflix being shot in his home state of New Mexico.

“It’s a Netflix series. I got six episodes. Going to do cowboy (expletive),” Cerrone said. “It’s called Godless.

“I’m part of a gang, a train robbery gang. I’m excited. We start on the 12th.”

From Academy Award-nominated writer Scott Frank (Get Shorty) and Academy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh (who will be serving as EP), Godless is described as “a period piece set in 1884 as Frank Griffin (Daniels), an outlaw who is terrorizing the West while looking for his former partner Roy Goode (O’Connell) on a mission of revenge. The search for Roy ends up in a town called La Belle, New Mexico, which is comprised entirely of women after a mining accident claimed the lives of all the men.” The series is set to star Jeff Daniels, Jack O’Connell, Merritt Weaver and Scoot McNairy, among others.

On the heels of a videogame-like finish of Rick Story at UFC 202, Cerrone recently signed an eight-fight contract extension with the UFC following some, let’s call them “unpleasant” negotiations with the brass. I have no idea whether the opportunity to pursue more film roles was included in said deal, but I’d imagine that the UFC would much rather have Cerrone pretending to rob trains in his spare time than spilling his guts in ATV accidents, in any case.

But I think the real question we need to ask ourselves now that Cerrone has been bitten by the acting bug is: How long will it be until we see him modeling Buffalo Jeans and Carhartt overalls and leaving this whole fighting thing behind entirely?
