The ‘It Me’ Podcast: The Dumb Joy Of Rivalry Games, And Way Too Much Bison Talk

Real, actual college football was played. And that means we can finally ignore predictions and speculations and live in the moment. I think my favorite week of the season is always Week 2 anyway. The “burning questions” are just embers, and we can build completely different hype and unrealistic expectations around small sample sizes. With just 60 minutes of game time, every team’s season is over or en route to a championship. There’s not really an in-between. Not yet anyway.

This week’s guest needs no introduction. He’s as much a part of college football as random photos of the Western Kentucky Hilltopper. He’s Spencer Hall of Every Day Should Be Saturday (and SB Nation).

We discussed:

  • Spencer’s season-opening essay on bison, America, and the violence of football
  • What makes a good vacation (especially alone)
  • ADVENTURE WRITERS
  • Peak Georgia
  • Ames, Iowa
  • Bill Snyder’s vacation habits
  • What heaven really should be like if heaven actually exists
  • Losing to Southern Miss
  • Florida’s “searching for coins in couch cushions” offense

Special thanks to the band Annabel for our intro and outro music. They’re really good. You should buy their music at their website or perhaps see them play a show some time.
