Seth Green Is Starring In A Miniseries About Computer Hackers, And Other News From 1996

By 08.14.12

Let me begin this post by making a few points: 1) I try very hard not to be Johnny CrapsOnEverythingBloggerGuy, especially in situations where I don’t know enough to formulate a fair opinion. It’s very easy to see a headline like “Ashton Kutcher Did A Thing Or Something” and just write “HAHA NICE JERK FACE, JERK. EVERYTHING YOU DO IS THE WORST” before clicking publish, and I honestly try to be better than that whenever I can. 2) I like Seth Green. He always struck me as a guy who has a good sense of humor about Hollywood, and I’ve enjoyed a lot of the stuff he’s been in. 3) Numbers 1 and 2 aside, I have been giggling about the description of his new miniseries for the last ten minutes, with no signs of stopping.

The Emmy-nominated actor and Robot Chicken creator is going to play Lucifer in Delete. Not that Lucifer, but a hacker activist who is described as a cross between Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State and Wikileaks’ Julian Assange. Delete is a four-hour miniseries depicting a near future where the World Wide Web has turned on mankind. [Deadline]

Here’s why I’ve been laughing: I challenge any of you to come up with a more ’90s sounding pitch for a movie or TV show than “Seth Green stars as a computer hacker named Lucifer in a miniseries titled Delete about the Internet turning on mankind.” I thought about it for a few minutes and the best I could come up with was “a slobbish group of college friends led by a balding Jeremy Piven fight back against the uptight students on a politically correct campus and save their beloved pigsty by throwing a huge concert that George Clinton ends up performing at through a number of fortuitous circumstances,” but then I remembered they already made that movie back in 1994.

So, yeah, this one is still in the lead. And you can shut the whole thing down if his character gets around using rollerblades or has a slacker friend name Buzzard or something. Nothing will be able to touch it then.
