Wait, Where Have We Seen That Hula Hooping Girl From The ‘Kimmy Schmidt’ Credits Before?

Eagle-eyed viewers of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt picked up lots of things more casual viewers of the show might have missed, from the near non-stop barrage of pop culture references, to silly gags like the incompetent judge at the trial of Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne being named “Judge Bad,” to haaaaaaaaaaang on a second. Is that hula hooping young girl in the credits the same one from the open credits for FX’s The Americans?

IT IS.

As delightful as it is to pretend the two shows exist in the same universe, and maybe Kimmy Schmidt and Elizabeth Jennings were hula-hoop-loving sisters who were separated at age 10 by the Russian government, there’s actual a much simpler and more boring explanation for it: The video is stock footage from the Getty archives, and the whole thing was probably just a case of the editors for Kimmy Schmidt plucking a cute video without realizing it was already being used by another show. Kind of a bummer.

But there is one more issue that no one has explained: Despite what the credits say, that girl does not appear to be Tituss Burgess OR Keri Russell. We’ll get to the bottom of this eventually, gang.
